Garth Trinidad

DJ / Curator

Garth Trinidad is a modern day griot -- award winning radio personality, celebrated international DJ, and culture critic who employs various platforms to frame a stylish narrative that illustrates the beauty of creative independence.

Growing up in 1980’s Los Angeles, Garth celebrated and participated in the thriving underground cultures of hip hop, punk rock, and skateboarding. Taking cues from the bold visuals and buoyant music, their rebellious ideals and brazen style informed his philosophy early on. Post high school, Garth volunteered at top NPR affiliate KCRW 89.9fm in Los Angeles while earning a BFA from the prestigious Otis College of Art & Design. By 1996, he secured his place among the oft envied KCRW DJ line up.

Trinidad’s efforts through radio, event production, music supervision, and journalism have enabled him to introduce the world to artists like Janelle Monae and Little Dragon, expose music of independent bands through film & TV projects such as HBO's Emmy winning series, Entourage, and interview scores of talent; from local bands, to luminaries such as legendary music mogul Quincy Jones, EDM icon Steve Aoki, et al. He contributes to music publications and blogs and is tapped regularly for his knowledge on music and related cultural matters, sharing commentary for various programs on networks/stations such as BBC, NPR, PBS, and has been featured on the pages of Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Wallpaper, etc. As a music consultant and A&R rep, Garth has produced projects for Atlantic Records, Royal Elastics, Hennessy, Scion, etc., while connecting deserving young talent with brands demanding of the creative vanguard. He's curated special events at iconic venues such as The Getty Center, Hollywood Bowl, and House of Blues, while remaining a staunch supporter of new talent by hosting small concerts in intimate settings.

The LA based DJ is known for his signature style of weaving together intergalactic tapestries of sound -- employing vintage jazz, indie rock, world rhythms, soul, hip hop, house, and electronic music to make his point. Garth DJs clubs, fashion shows, private events, and festivals around the world in hopes of turning people on to the possibilities of rhythm and sound. His extensive list of clients and corporate partners include Tesla Motors, Apple, Nike, Gatorade, FX Network, and Sony Pictures. Credited in part with shaping LA's modern music landscape, Trinidad is regarded by press and peers as a key influencer of global music culture.

Garth is currently serving as music editor of LA Canvas magazine and helping craft of a new genre of music dubbed Lit-House with DJ/production partner Mateo Senolia (as Trinidad-Senolia), with recent releases on Yoruba, Ninja Tune, and Okayplayer recordings. He can be heard most weeknights from 8-10pm on NPR affiliate KCRW 89.9fm playing his critically acclaimed international mix of music.
